Oslo: The Norwegian government announced plans to allocate 85 billion kroner (approximately 7.2 billion Euro) in aid to Ukraine for 2026, matching the amount pledged for 2025. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said in a statement on Monday that the government wants to extend the extraordinary aid program for Ukraine into next year, by providing a total contribution of 85 billion kroner to support both military and civilian sectors.
According to Qatar News Agency, Store added that the war in Ukraine continues despite ongoing discussions about a ceasefire and peace, stressing the importance of maintaining consistent political, economic, and military support for Kyiv. If approved by parliament, the total civilian and military support Norway intends to provide to Ukraine between 2023 and 2030 will rise to 275 billion kroner (over 23 billion Euro).
The announcement coincided with the Norwegian prime minister's visit to Kyiv, where he is expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The aid package is expected to be included in the government's 2026 draft budget, due in October.
The German Kiel Institute for the World Economy recently noted that Norway ranked second among European countries, after Germany, in terms of the scale of military support provided to Ukraine during May and June.
