Doha: Northwestern Qatar has received a grant renewal aimed at advancing the field of Arab information and media studies. Launched in 2022 and directed by Marwan M. Kraidy, dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar, the AIMS project is designed to transform Arab media studies into an interdisciplinary, multilingual, and collaborative field.
According to Qatar News Agency, the AIMS project has made strides in advancing critical media and information studies by fostering connections among Arabophone, Anglophone, and Francophone scholars. It has facilitated networking, translated scholarly works, and published research, integrating Arab media studies into broader transnational networks of knowledge within the Global South. The initiative positions Arab media studies as a significant contributor to global media and policy discussions.
As the grant period nears its conclusion, Northwestern Qatar is set to host a conference that will highlight the work of early-career scholars and present the latest advancements in the field to regional audiences. This conference aims to further solidify the impact of the AIMS initiative and its contributions to Arab media studies.
