Norland welcomes the formation of the presidential Supreme Committee for Financial Supervision.

The US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, welcomed today, Monday, the decision issued by the Presidential Council recently to form a supreme committee for financial oversight.

Norland said in a tweet posted by the US embassy on Twitter that the recent decision to form a supreme committee for financial oversight is an important step towards a fair distribution of public revenues and more financial transparency.

He stressed that Libya’s wealth should benefit all Libyans in various regions, continuing in his tweet, “We commend the leadership of the President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, and the head of the National Oil Corporation, Farhat bin Qadara, and we commend the Libyan leaders from all over the country for their role in setting up the committee.”

He added that this show of unity sets an important precedent in finding a peaceful solution to legitimate grievances and shows a commitment to stability, which he considered vital to the elections.
