NHRC Urges Arab League to Back Efforts Against Israeli Violations in Qatar Context

Cairo: HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, has called on the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to support NHRC's efforts in revealing Israeli violations amid aggression against Qatar. This appeal aims to amplify victims' voices in international and regional human rights forums.

According to Qatar News Agency, during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Al Attiyah emphasized the need for the League's support in accountability and investigation efforts. She highlighted the Israeli aggression's impact on populated areas, including schools and diplomatic sites, stressing the importance of prosecuting those responsible for human rights violations.

The meeting in Cairo included HE President of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, Samar Haj Hassan, and other human rights leaders. Al Attiyah urged backing for the Arab Network's extraordinary General Assembly outcomes.

Following the attacks, NHRC sent urgent appeals to international authorities, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, among others. The communications targeted leading organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International to trigger global action against the aggression.

Al Attiyah asserted that the aggression contravenes international laws protecting civilians and human rights conventions, such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child. She noted the attack's severe humanitarian and psychological impacts, particularly on women and children, turning residential areas into fear zones.

Reports indicate increased trauma cases among schoolchildren and women, necessitating immediate international intervention. Al Attiyah called for incorporating the Israeli aggression into the Arab League's Permanent Human Rights Committee agenda, emphasizing the League's role in supporting the Arab Network's recommendations.

She also stressed the need for United Nations system reforms to address double standards and impunity regarding Israeli violations against civilians. An emergency meeting of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is also being pursued.

Al Attiyah reviewed NHRC's documentation efforts regarding the violations and commended the Arab League's supportive stance toward Qatar. She praised the broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the victims and their families.
