NHRC Chairperson Reaffirms Dedication to Human Rights and Formation of National Committees

Doha: HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, emphasized NHRC's pioneering role in establishing several human rights committees across various countries in the region. She highlighted the steps taken by the State of Qatar over the past decade, which signify a significant shift in human rights due to the leadership's commitment to achieving the highest standards of human rights and ensuring a decent life for everyone residing in Qatar.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Attiyah, in an interview with Al-Arab newspaper, emphasized the legislative and executive bodies' efforts in fulfilling the requirements for creating an ideal human rights environment. She noted several labor rights legislations aimed at protecting and enhancing the right to work, underscoring the State's commitment to safeguarding the rights of all residents.

Al Attiyah remarked that human rights are deeply embedded in Qatari traditions and Islamic values, with a welcoming attitude from the Qatari people towards adhering to human rights principles. The NHRC has observed a strong commitment from State institutions to implement the highest human rights standards, aligning with UN obligations and conventions.

Discussing the State's efforts in supporting women, children, and people with disabilities, Al Attiyah noted significant progress, recognized both locally and internationally. She highlighted the numerous events organized by the NHRC, attended by human rights experts, which showcased Qatar's success in these areas.

Al Attiyah affirmed that state institutions positively respond to NHRC's recommendations, enhancing transparency and clarifying programs to ensure high commitment to human rights. She emphasized the training courses conducted by the Committee with various state institutions.

On regional and international efforts, Al Attiyah highlighted the NHRC's contributions in supporting human rights efforts in several countries and establishing human rights committees, aligning with the Paris Principles. She emphasized the Committee's commitment to fostering cooperation globally, noting numerous agreements signed with international organizations.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, Al Attiyah affirmed NHRC's focus on this central issue for the Islamic and Arab nations, stressing that defending it is a humanitarian duty for all with a conscience and sense of human rights.
