Doha: HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah held a meeting with HE United Kingdom Special Envoy for Women and Girls Baroness Harriet Harman during the 4th National Human Rights Forum.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on various human rights issues that are of mutual interest to both Qatar and the United Kingdom. HE Al Attiyah highlighted the significant strides made by the State of Qatar in advancing women's rights. She pointed out the numerous rights granted to women in recent years, which have facilitated their growing contribution to society.
HE Al Attiyah emphasized that women's participation in the labor market in Qatar has become increasingly apparent. This change is largely attributed to the supportive laws and facilities that have been established, enabling women to balance family and work responsibilities. She also highlighted the NHRC's efforts to support women's rights and the presence of Qatari women across all professions and fields.
Further, HE the Chairperson of the NHRC discussed the committee's initiatives in expanding its organizational structure to better protect the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. These efforts are part of the committee's strategic plan aimed at promoting and safeguarding the rights of those who are most in need of care.
