Doha: A new 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, approximately 342 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to a statement posted by local authorities.
According to Qatar News Agency, the quake occurred at a depth of 82.3 kilometers and comes amid a period of heightened seismic activity in the region. Kamchatka is located within the geologically volatile "Ring of Fire," an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. On July 30, the peninsula was hit by a massive 8.8-magnitude tremor -- the strongest to hit the region since 1952. The quake triggered tsunami warnings across multiple areas and was followed the next day by two significant aftershocks, measuring 6.0 and 5.1 on the Richter scale.
