NATO Intercepts Russian Warplanes Violating Estonian Airspace

Doha: NATO announced Friday that it intercepted Russian warplanes that violated Estonian airspace.

According to Qatar News Agency, NATO stated that it immediately took action and intercepted the Russian warplanes.

In a post on the social media platform X, NATO expressed concerns over the incident, stating: "This is yet another example of reckless Russian behavior and NATO's ability to respond."

Estonia reported the incident on Friday, highlighting that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace for a few minutes. Estonia described the occurrence as an "unprecedented" escalation on NATO's eastern border.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that Russia had violated Estonia's airspace four times since the beginning of the year. He remarked on the increasing border tests and aggression by Russia, urging for a swift increase in political and economic pressure in response.

Estonia is the third NATO member state to report a Russian airspace violation in recent weeks. Romania recently announced that a Russian drone entered its airspace during a raid on Ukraine. Similarly, Poland reported that over 20 Russian drones had entered its airspace before being shot down.
