Mount merapi: Mount Merapi volcano in Indonesia erupted Tuesday, spewing an ash column 1,600 meters above its summit.
According to Qatar News Agency, an officer from the Mount Merapi Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PGA) stated that the eruption was detected on a seismometer with a maximum amplitude of 30.4 mm, lasting approximately 34 seconds.
The Indonesian Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center reported that the alert level for Mount Merapi, situated on the border between the Yogyakarta Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Central Java, remains at the second highest of four levels. There have been no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the eruption so far.
Mount Merapi has experienced multiple eruptions since 2018, with its last deadly eruption in 2010, which resulted in the deaths of over 340 people and displaced more than 60,000. It is the most active among Indonesia's 127 volcanoes.
