MOT Conducts Successful Trial of Unmanned eVTOL Flight in Qatar

Doha: The Ministry of Transport on Saturday carried out the successful trial of the first-ever urban flight with an unmanned eVTOL in Qatar, marking a significant step in the country's vision to adopt smart and sustainable mobility solutions. This event was conducted under the patronage and presence of HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Thani.

According to Qatar News Agency, the air taxi demonstration flight is part of a series of tests overseen by the Ministry of Transport, focusing on the technical and future applicability of such technologies. The trial flight was conducted between the Old Doha Port and the Katara Cultural Village, utilizing a full self-control system enabled by AI and advanced air navigation technologies, demonstrating the system's capability to safely navigate the airspace without direct human interference.

The Ministry of Transport will continue to assess the test results and develop the regulatory and technical frameworks necessary for the approval and operation of this type of mobility. This effort aligns with international standards and aims to enhance Qatar's status as a global leader in smart and sustainable technologies.

The pilotless air taxi project will progress through several phases, addressing technical, operational, and regulatory needs, including infrastructure readiness and system approval. This approach ensures that the new mobility system can be safely integrated into Qatar's transportation network, meeting all safety, security, and quality standards.

HE the Minister highlighted the trial as a significant milestone in Qatar's journey toward smart and sustainable mobility solutions. This initiative supports the Ministry of Transport's commitment to enhancing Qatar's position in modern transportation and contributes to national efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life.

This project is aligned with the MOT Strategy 2025-2030, which aims to create a smart, resilient transportation system that emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and integration across transportation modes. By boosting the efficiency of the country's transportation system, it advances the goals of the National Development Strategy 3 and Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE the Minister also noted that the Ministry will continue its efforts to elevate Qatar's global profile in smart and emerging transportation technologies, partnering with leading global companies to develop infrastructure capable of accommodating advanced transportation modes in the future.

The trial operation is part of the Ministry's initiatives to enhance Qatar's public transportation system by using unmanned eVTOL aircraft as a safe, fast, and eco-friendly urban mobility option. This contributes to reducing traffic congestion and provides smart mobility choices for citizens, residents, and visitors, demonstrating that leadership is achieved when technology meets governance.
