Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, held talks, on Friday in Fez, with the Senegalese Minister for Flood Prevention and Management, Issakha Diop, on ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in flood prevention.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 3rd International Conference on Water and Climate (ICWC3), enabled both parties to examine ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the water sector, particularly in flood protection.
In a statement to MAP, Baraka said that the meeting focused on sharing Morocco’s experience in flood protection, particularly with regard to the meteorology-based warning system, the construction of hill dams, the capitalization of floods by means of underground dams, and the development of crisis management systems involving the various departments concerned.
“These issues will be the subject of in-depth meetings to ensure a genuine exchange of experience and to develop joint projects in this field”, said the Moroccan Minister.
For his part, Diop described as “fruitful” his meeting with the Moroccan minister as it enabled him to examine ways of “further strengthening the dynamic partnership between Morocco and Senegal”.
