Doha: HE Minister of Labour, Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, participated in a high-level session at the Second World Summit for Social Development titled "Global Alliance for Social Justice Forum- From Commitment to Action: Advancing the Political Declaration on Social Development through Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration for Decent Work and Social Justice". This session, co-led by the International Labour Organization (ILO), Qatar, Switzerland, and Brazil, is a key activity of the summit currently held in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event aims to convert political commitments into actionable measures by promoting cooperation among governments, employers, workers, and international organizations. Discussions focused on promoting fair living wages, expanding comprehensive social protection, supporting a transition to a green economy, regulating the informal economy, stimulating small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and empowering women and youth in the labor market.
In his remarks, Dr. Al Marri highlighted the significance of hosting the summit in Doha at a pivotal moment, calling on stakeholders to renew their commitment to social justice, decent work, and sustainable development. He noted that the summit occurs during a period of significant structural changes, including technological advancements, demographic shifts, and economic and environmental challenges.
Dr. Al Marri also underscored that the Political Declaration on Social Development symbolizes a global recommitment to combat poverty, enhance social inclusion, and expand decent work opportunities. He emphasized Qatar's belief in social justice as a foundation for stable and prosperous societies, as reflected in Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritizes balanced development across human, social, economic, and environmental domains.
Under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar is promoting a developmental model based on a knowledge-based economy, equal opportunities, social empowerment, and workplace justice, Dr. Al Marri stated. The Ministry of Labour has developed a national strategy focused on improving the work environment, empowering the workforce, and reinforcing dialogue among stakeholders.
Dr. Al Marri highlighted Qatar's status as a trusted partner in the international labor system, reflecting its commitment to international cooperation for fairness in the workplace through the Global Alliance for Social Justice. Qatar aims to contribute to shaping a new global agenda for social justice, integrating economic, social, and environmental policies, and supporting a just transition to a green economy.
The session served as a platform to convert political pledges into initiatives that promote decent work, sustainable employment, women and youth empowerment, SME support, and social safety net expansion. Dr. Al Marri reiterated the belief that social justice is a human and moral duty, with Qatar committed to collaborating internationally to build a world that ensures equitable opportunities.
