Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) held a coordination meeting to discuss the progress made in implementing the provisions of the National Ivory Action Plan (NAIP).
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting discussed the recommendations of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) meeting. It also discussed the procedures for detecting violations and enhancing joint cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of the NAIP.
The MOECC urged the public to contribute to efforts to protect these species to preserve the ecological balance and ensure the sustainability of wildlife.
The ministry also warned citizens and residents against illegal trade in wildlife or their products, such as ivory and rhinoceros horns, stressing that this act is a violation punishable by Law No. 5 of 2006.
In 2001, the State of Qatar joined the CITES to regulate the trade of wildlife and ensure their sustainability in their natural environments.
