MoECC, HBKU Sign Cooperation Contract in Research, Environmental Projects and Air Quality Fields

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have signed a contract for cooperation in the field of research, environmental projects and air quality, in the presence of HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Thani, and President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Dr. Ahmad Mujahid Omar Hasnah at the universitys headquarters in Education City.

The contract was signed by Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs at the MOECC, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullatif Al Maslamani, and Vice President of Operations at HBKU Eng. Soud Abdulaziz Al Tamimi, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

The contract supports research on air quality in the State of Qatar, and the possibility of accessing new discoveries in order to preserve the purity of the air. It also contributes to supporting and building national capacities in the same context.

In his speech on this occasion, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al- Thani commended the contract signed with HBKU, pointing out that the cooperation will contribute to strengthening the ministry’s efforts in environmental sustainability and climate change. It also comes in the context of the Ministry’s endeavors and its vision of the importance of cooperation with local universities and national research centers, to benefit from their efforts in the framework of serving environmental issues and promoting their preservation.

For his part, HBKU’s President Dr. Ahmad Mujahid Omar Hasnah expressed his pleasure in cooperating with the MoECC to enhance joint efforts in the field of environmental protection, preservation and sustainability by conducting technical and scientific studies and research that help the Ministry to develop and prepare its plans in this field, in line with the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to manage the environment in a way that ensures harmony and consistency between economic and social development and environmental protection.

In turn, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs at the MOECC, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullatif Al Maslamani considered the cooperation with HBKU a continuation of the Ministry’s endeavors to establish partnerships with scientific institutions such as universities and research centers in a way that contributes to enriching the field of research and studies, and working to assess the environmental situation periodically, and identifying priorities and challenges.

On the sidelines of signing the contract, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al- Thani toured HBKU’s laboratories of research centers, which contribute a major role in many scientific research related to the fields of preserving the environment and air quality.

The cooperation contract consolidates the partnership between the two parties, the exchange of scientific and research opportunities, as well as benefiting from all the capabilities available to both parties, and employing them to support efforts in the field of climate change and other fields related to the environment, in a way that achieves the common goals of the two institutions.

The contract also contributes to the exchange of information and expertise in various fields, including statistics and data, holding meetings and trainings between experts and specialists, forming working committees to develop joint plans, and holding consultative meetings.
