MOCI Signs Strategic Partnership Program with Korea Intellectual Property Office

Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) today signed a strategic partnership program with the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), a step aimed at establishing a national intellectual property strategy and enhancing capacity building in this field. The program was signed by Undersecretary of MOCI, Mohammed bin Hassan Al Malki and Commissioner of the Korea Intellectual Property Office, Kim Wan Ki.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement from the Ministry confirmed that the signing of this program comes within the framework of activating the comprehensive memorandum of understanding in the field of intellectual property, signed between the two sides on June 15, 2023, in the Korean capital, Seoul. This memorandum laid the foundations for bilateral cooperation in the field of intellectual property between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea.

The program also aims to support efforts to develop an integrated national intellectual property strategy in the State of Qatar and implement advanced activities to build institutional and human capacities, contributing to supporting an innovation-based economy and enhancing the relevant legislative and regulatory environment.

Through this program, the two sides will cooperate in several key areas, most notably: human resource development in the intellectual property sector in Qatar, exploring areas for development and benchmarking them against global best practices, and holding consultations with stakeholders to identify the intellectual property systems most suited to their needs.

They will also transfer expertise and knowledge from the Korean side, enhancing the efficiency of national cadres in this vital field. The two sides will continuously monitor the implementation of the program and evaluate its outcomes, ensuring the achievement of its objectives and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of intellectual property between the two countries.
