Ministry of Endowments Inaugurates Grand Mosque in Umm Qarn

Umm Qarn: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, through its Mosques Department, has officially inaugurated the Sheikha Roda bint Jassim Al Thani Mosque in Umm Qarn. The mosque is a significant addition to the area, with the capacity to accommodate 1,050 worshippers. It is situated on a large plot of land measuring 7,174 square meters and includes an Eid prayer hall, as well as residences for both the Imam and the Muezzin.

According to Qatar News Agency, the mosque’s opening is a part of the Ministry’s broader initiative to expand and develop mosque facilities across the nation. This initiative aligns with the country’s national population growth and urban expansion, supporting Qatar’s National Vision 2030. The new mosque is equipped with a main prayer hall for 950 male worshippers and a separate women’s prayer hall for 100 worshippers. In addition, the mosque provides spacious ablution facilities and ample parking spaces, including those designated for individuals with disabilities, complete with organized entrances and exits. A tall minaret adds to the mosque’s architectural features.

The attached Eid prayer hall covers an area of 1,424 square meters and can host up to 1,835 worshippers. Accommodations for the Imam and Muezzin are also part of the mosque complex. The Ministry’s Engineering Affairs Department plays a crucial role in fulfilling the mosque and prayer space requirements across various regions of the country. This includes providing temporary mosques, overseeing maintenance, and coordinating the annual maintenance plan for mosques and Imam residences. The department also supervises mosque construction projects, ensuring compliance with design and engineering specifications, and maintains a comprehensive database of mosques and prayer spaces along with their staff.

Additionally, the Ministry’s website features a tool that enables users to locate mosques using detailed maps, facilitating easier access to mosque locations throughout the country.
