Beirut: HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi emphasized Qatar’s unwavering commitment to supporting Lebanon and its citizens, as well as enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors to foster stability and development in Lebanon and the broader region.

According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration was made during a joint press conference with HE Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon Dr. Tarek Mitri. The event was held to announce Qatar’s provision of development and humanitarian aid to Lebanon, amounting to USD 434,248,000, which aims to benefit over 1.5 million people. This support is facilitated through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in collaboration with Lebanese authorities.

HE Dr. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar’s steadfast support for Lebanon amidst regional challenges, highlighting the constructive discussions with Lebanese officials about enhancing bilateral relations and addressing political and security developments. He underscored that Lebanon’s stability is vital for regional security and urged prioritizing dialogue for Lebanon’s prosperity.

He also noted that Qatar’s commitment to Lebanon is deep-rooted, encompassing political, developmental, humanitarian, and economic dimensions. Dr. Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s backing for the Lebanese Army, including support for salaries, fuel, and vehicles, as crucial for Lebanon’s security.

On political efforts, Dr. Al Khulaifi highlighted the Quintet Group’s role in supporting Lebanon, emphasizing joint work with Qatar’s partners to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty. He urged adherence to Security Council Resolution 1,701 and condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory.

HE Dr. Tarek Mitri acknowledged Qatar’s historical support for Lebanon, particularly during the 2006 conflict, and expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing assistance, including political backing and army support. He emphasized the strong ties between Qatar and Lebanon, underscoring Qatar’s significant role in Lebanon’s sovereignty and development.
