Minister of Environment and Climate Change Inaugurates 4th Edition of Sustainable Development Day at Lusail University

Lusail: HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie inaugurated the student project exhibition as part of the fourth edition of Sustainable Development Day organized by Lusail University. His Excellency, along with HE Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, toured the exhibition, viewing student innovations in renewable energy, resource management, and environmental conservation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the event saw participation from over 200 students across various academic programs, underscoring the university's commitment to supporting national sustainability efforts, raising environmental awareness among students, and enabling their contributions to initiatives aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030. Students presented initiatives that demonstrated an advanced understanding of sustainability issues by applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects supporting the national strategy for environment and climate change implementation.

Dean of the College of Education and Arts at Lusail University, Professor Dr. Ramzi Naim Nasser, highlighted the university's annual celebration of Sustainable Development Day, reflecting its commitment to sustainability in education and academic initiatives. Since its inception, Lusail University has offered a specialized course in sustainability, integrating environmental, social, and economic awareness into the curriculum. Dr. Nasser emphasized that sustainability is actively practiced in the university's activities.

Dr. Nasser noted the exhibition featured 50-60 students presenting innovative projects, including a smart helmet for construction workers equipped with heat sensors and GPS tracking, showcasing students' creative thinking and practical solution development. The projects undergo academic evaluation, with a specialized committee selecting three winners to recognize outstanding efforts.

He emphasized sustainability is essential, referencing United Nations reports indicating the need for increased effort to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the importance of early awareness among students. The event aligns with Qatar Sustainability Week, with Lusail University consistently participating to promote sustainability among youth.

Sustainable Development Day also featured awareness activities, student presentations, environmental competitions, and awards for the best projects and presentations, reflecting the university's commitment to fostering creativity and encouraging initiatives that support community participation values.
