Minister of Education Highlights Qatar Museums’ Commitment to Advancing Cultural Diplomacy.

Doha: HE Minister of Education and Higher Education and vice-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, emphasized Qatar Museums' dedication to promoting cultural diplomacy through an expanding network of museums and archaeological sites, as well as organizing unique events that significantly enhance cultural identity. According to Qatar News Agency, during the opening ceremony of the conference "The Future of Museums and Museology Practices in a Changing World," organized by Qatar Museums in collaboration with the International Council of Museums - National Committee for Qatar (ICOM Qatar), the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM), and the ICOM-Arab Regional Alliance, Her Excellency highlighted Qatar Museums' proven role in enriching the cultural scene. The conference, held at the Museum of Islamic Art, is attended by specialists and academics from over 80 countries, offering a platform for exchanging experience s and exploring the latest developments in museum science. Her Excellency emphasized the integral role of museums in education, serving as reflections of cultural values that preserve heritage for future generations. She noted that the conference focuses on supporting young people and their community development roles. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of educational institutions in building a generation aware of its roots and capable of facing future challenges, positioning museums as bridges connecting past to present. The Minister also discussed the formation of a national committee for museums in Qatar, aimed at reflecting the country's cultural efforts globally. The conference is seen as crucial in fostering knowledge exchange between global and local experts, contributing to the sustainability of Qatar's cultural heritage. CEO of Qatar Museums, Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, encouraged participants to engage in cultural experiences offered by Qatar Museums and its "Qatar Creates" initiative. He rei terated the organization's focus on preserving heritage while leveraging international conferences to further its mission. The conference also explores the use of advanced technologies, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, to enhance visitor experiences. Dr. Fatema Hassan Al Sulaiti, Director of International Cooperation and Government Affairs at Qatar Museums, highlighted Qatar's commitment to innovation and development in the cultural sector, and Prof. Karen Brown, Chair of ICOFOM, expressed excitement over the global participation and discussions on sustainable museum practices. Dr. Rashid Ali Malheya, Head of International Relations at Qatar Museums, underscored the conference's role in promoting education, sustainability, and innovation within museums. He noted Qatar Museums' pioneering use of technology in presenting Qatar's identity and cultural story. The conference aims to engage young people in discussions on climate change and diverse experiences, promoting sustainability in alig nment with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. Participants have opportunities for practical learning through workshops and cultural activities. ICOM, established in 1946, is an international organization dedicated to the protection and promotion of cultural and museum heritage, with over 44,000 members from 138 countries. It plays a crucial role in setting professional standards and fostering international cooperation in the museum sector.
