Minister of Education and Higher Education: Organizing 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad Aims to Enhance Communication between Arab Students.

Doha: The Fourth Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024 commenced in Doha on Sunday, organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar in collaboration with the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science. The Olympiad aims to foster communication among Arab students and will run until November 14.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Chairperson of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, emphasized that the event is part of ongoing efforts to enhance excellence, creativity, and confidence among students. She highlighted that the Olympiad seeks to address the urgent need for curriculum development to align with current technological advancements and modern life requirements. The focus is on improving mathematics education as it is foundational to many applied sciences.

d that the Arab Mathematics Olympiad represents the collective interest of Arab countries in advancing students’ performance in modern sciences, which is crucial for sustainable development. The competition provides a platform for discovering talented students, thereby elevating scientific standards across participating nations. It encourages cooperation and experience-sharing in a stimulating environment beyond traditional classroom settings, preparing students for the International Mathematics Olympiad and global competitions.

The Minister noted that the success of students in the Olympiad reflects not only their personal achievements but also the pride and potential contributions to their countries. She expressed gratitude to ALECSO and the organizing committees for their dedication to the event, anticipating that their efforts would achieve the Olympiad’s objectives and wishing success to all participating students.

ALECSO Director-General Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar expressed his appreciation to Qatar for it
s leadership role in supporting sustainable development and Arab cooperation. He commended Qatar’s effective partnership with ALECSO and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in organizing the Olympiad, which aligns with ALECSO’s mission to enhance educational opportunities in Arab nations.

Dr. Gregor Dolinar, President of the International Mathematical Olympiad, acknowledged the significance of offering Arab students a platform to showcase their talents amidst an AI-driven era. Maryam Noman Al Emadi, Director of Educational Guidance Department at MOEHE, shared that the Olympiad would feature 80 to 100 students and include events for Arab mathematicians, culminating in an award ceremony. She praised Qatar’s hosting of the event as an opportunity for cultural exchange and enriching students’ scientific knowledge.

The biennial Olympiad underscores MOEHE’s commitment to elevating students’ scientific capabilities and fostering positive competition and communication among Arab students, preparing them
