Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Tuesday that “the camp insisting on allegedly protecting the presidential powers is the one who practiced obstruction for years, and who continues to put the blame on others and seeks to obstruct the government’s work.”
“The government is not responsible for the presidential vacuum and the renewed political wars between the political components,” Mikati said during the 3rd Emigrants Economic Conference, organized by Al Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group, at Phoenicia Hotel.
“The government is not the one preventing the election of a new president of the republic,” he added.
“It has become clear that the continuity of the government does not fulfill the ambitions of the sides seeking to expand vacuum,” he went on saying. “We must be patient in the face of calumnies and false accusations, and it is mandatory to put the record straight,” he stressed.
“We in the government takes into consideration the existing reality and the criticality of the situation,” he continued.
“We will not accept any custodianship or dominance over us,” he underlined.
“The Constitution is crystal clear, and we abide by its provisions,” he said.
Mikati also renewed calls to elect a new president in the nearest time possible, urging the rival camps to cease their bickering.
