Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea, No Casualties Reported

Doha: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck southwest of Angoram in Papua New Guinea Thursday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 115 kilometers and approximately 54 kilometers southwest of Angoram. No reports of human or material losses have been issued.

Papua New Guinea is located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region surrounding the Pacific Ocean known for its high seismic and volcanic activity. This zone contains 90 percent of the world's active volcanoes and was the site of a devastating earthquake in February 2018 that claimed at least 100 lives and triggered landslides that buried dozens of villages.
