Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Aceh Province

Aceh: An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday in Aceh province, north of Sumatra, Indonesia.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) reported that the epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 10 kilometers. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

Indonesia experiences frequent earthquakes because it is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where multiple tectonic plates meet, causing regular volcanic and seismic activities.
