Antananarivo: Authorities in Madagascar have foiled an alleged assassination plot targeting President Col. Michael Randrianirina. In a televised statement, Madagascar's Attorney General Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina announced that preliminary investigations have led to the arrest of 13 individuals. Of these, 11 are now in pre-trial detention on suspicion of involvement in the plot, along with related charges.

According to Qatar News Agency, Rakotoniaina claimed that a military officer, Patrick Rakotomamonjy, is suspected to be one of the main planners and remains at large. This arrest comes in the wake of rising political tensions in Madagascar. President Randrianirina, who took office last October, ascended to power following widespread protests over social conditions, which resulted in the removal of former President Andry Rajoelina.

The situation remains tense as the authorities continue their search for Rakotomamonjy and further investigate the extent of the alleged conspiracy. The government has reinforced security measures to ensure the safety of the president and maintain stability in the region.
