Macron Warns of ‘Cascading Consequences’ if US Seizes Greenland

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron warned that if the United States seized Greenland from Denmark, it would trigger a wave of "unprecedented" consequences, referring to President Trump's efforts to annex it to the US. "We do not underestimate statements on Greenland," Macron said, quoted by French government spokesperson Maud Bregeon. "If the sovereignty of a European ally were affected, the cascading consequences would be unprecedented," Bregeon said.

According to Qatar News Agency, Macron emphasized that France is closely monitoring the situation and will act in full solidarity with Denmark and its sovereignty. Greenland, which has a population of fewer than 57,000 and is covered by ice over roughly four-fifths of its territory, enjoys self-governance within the Kingdom of Denmark, a NATO member.

The territory's residents have repeatedly affirmed their opposition to joining the United States, while Copenhagen maintains its commitment to the principles of sovereignty and the right to self-determination under international law.
