Doha: Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed in a phone call with US President Joe Biden, the reaching of a ceasefire deal in Lebanon. Mikati praised the US-France joint efforts to reach the agreement, which he considered a step towards establishing calm and stability in Lebanon and the return of the displaced to their villages and cities, and it also helps establish regional stability. According to Qatar News Agency, Mikati reiterated the government's commitment to implementing UN Resolution 1701 and strengthening the army's presence in southern Lebanon and cooperating with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), calling on the countries of the world and the relevant international institutions to assume their responsibilities in this regard. Mikati also called on the Israeli entity to fully commit to the ceasefire decision, withdraw from all areas and sites it occupies, and fully abide by Resolution 1701. US President Joe Biden announced earlier today that Lebanon and the Israeli entity had agreed to a ceasefire, which will go into effect Wednesday morning, thanking French President Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to reach the agreement.
