Lebanon Urges US to Press Israel to Halt Hostilities, Withdraw from Territory

Lebanon: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday held talks in Beirut with US Special Envoy Thomas Barrack on the situation in Lebanon and regional developments. Salam urged Washington to assume its responsibility in pressing Israel to halt hostilities, withdraw from five disputed points on Lebanese territory, and release prisoners. He also stressed the need to support and strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces with funding and equipment to enable them to carry out their duties.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Prime Minister called for the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), highlighting its role in maintaining stability and assisting the army in extending state authority in southern Lebanon. He further appealed for an international commitment to convene a conference to support Lebanon's reconstruction and economic recovery.

On regional issues, Salam reaffirmed the importance of preserving Syria's unity and stability. Earlier in the day, the US envoy met with Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
