Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today in Beirut to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the UN's support for Lebanon during the next phase.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the meeting, Guterres expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people and support for President Aoun and the future government. He emphasized the need to consolidate Lebanese institutions and create conditions for the Lebanese state to protect its citizens fully. He highlighted the potential for peace with the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese army across the country.
Guterres also assured the mobilization of the international community to aid Lebanon in its recovery. He expressed optimism that Lebanon would regain its status as a central figure in the Middle East.
The agreement with Israel, effective November 27, requires Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanese villages and towns within sixty days of signing, marking a significant step towards regional stability.
