Lebanese Leader, Iranian Official Discuss Bilateral Ties

Lebanon: Lebanon's President, General Joseph Aoun, met Wednesday with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Dr. Ali Larijani, to discuss bilateral relations. Throughout the meeting, Aoun affirmed that his country looks forward to cooperating with Iran within the limits of sovereignty and friendship based on mutual respect. He stressed that Lebanese statehood is responsible for protecting all Lebanese components through its constitutional and security institutions.

According to Qatar News Agency, Lebanon pushes back on any interference in its internal affairs from any side and is committed to having secure and stable territories for the best interest of all Lebanese without discrimination, Aoun underscored. Aoun further stressed that Lebanon prohibits the carrying of arms and seeking foreign support, highlighting that the nation and its armed forces are responsible for the security of all Lebanese without exception.

He indicated that any challenges coming from Israel, or any other side will, likewise, face all Lebanese. For his part, Dr. Larijani affirmed that his country is willing to enhance relations with Lebanon, emphasizing that Tehran doesn't meddle in Lebanese internal affairs.
