The Prime Minister of Lebanon’s Caretaker government Najib Mikati said that the number of displaced persons in the country is approaching one million, denoting the largest displacement operation in Lebanon’s history.
During a press conference on Sunday following the Government Emergency Committee meeting, Mikati stressed that the government is exerting all efforts to meet the urgent needs of displaced persons within available means.
He also said that the entry of donations will be facilitated on the condition that the donor and the donation-granting administration are known.
The Caretaker PM added that a meeting will be held with donor countries and agencies to ask them to help at this critical stage.
Mikati continued, “We will not hesitate for a moment to pursue the diplomatic role, and we have no choice but the diplomatic option.” He also indicated that he will call for a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Gaza.
The Lebanese Caretaker PM said that security forces are mobilized to protect shelters an
d displaced persons, in addition to ensuring peace and security, noting that maritime and air facilities will continue to operate.
