The Permanent Conference for Audiovisual Media in the Mediterranean (COPEAM) held its annual meeting in the city of Naples, Italy, on April 18 and 19, and its general assembly elected the Lebanese Karim Abdallah by acclamation as President of COPEAM for a period of two years. Abdallah has been working in the world of Western and Arab media for 30 years, and currently oversees ART for television production and the Media City in Amman. Upon his election, Abdallah affirmed that he would make use of his media relations 'in the service of COPEAM, which always strives for a better media future that brings the Mediterranean countries together." In this connection, Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad al-Makary, contacted Abdallah to congratulate and wish him success in his new endeavour. Abdallah was also contacted by Radio Lebanon Director, Mohamed Gharib, who congratulated him on his new post.
