Kremlin Calls for Extreme Caution Over Nuclear Rhetoric Ahead of Witkoff Visit

Moscow: The Russian Presidency (Kremlin) on Monday called for taking extreme caution regarding the rhetoric related to nuclear issues.

According to Qatar News Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that Russia is taking a responsible stance and paying close attention to the issue of nuclear nonproliferation. Commenting on US President Donald Trump's announcement of deploying two nuclear submarines near Russia, Peskov said it is clear that the American submarines are already on a combat mission, as this is an ongoing operation.

Trump's move came in response to statements by former President of Russia and currently the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, which Trump deemed as provocative.

Regarding the Ukrainian settlement, Peskov noted that US mediation efforts in the Ukraine crisis are important, including in the context of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The Kremlin does not rule out the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff later this week, Peskov highlighted.

Later on Monday, the US President stated that his Special Envoy Witkoff could visit Russia either next Wednesday or Thursday.
