Athens: Former Speaker of the Greek Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas was sworn in as the new President of Greece on Wednesday, succeeding Katerina Sakellaropoulou, whose five-year term concluded earlier this month.
According to Qatar News Agency, Tassoulas, a 66-year-old lawyer and veteran parliamentarian, hails from the ruling center-right bloc and was nominated for the presidency by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Prime Minister emphasized Tassoulas's extensive political experience and his ability to serve as a unifying figure.
The presidency in Greece, although largely ceremonial, plays a symbolic role in representing national unity and upholding the country's constitutional order.
