Doha: Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, emphasized the importance of resuming negotiations to achieve a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue and to prevent further destabilization in the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, during a phone conversation on Monday, both parties discussed the consequences of the escalating tensions in the region and the efforts needed to address them. They also addressed the dire situation in Gaza, with Safadi underscoring the importance of ending Israeli aggression, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, and taking decisive steps towards a just peace based on the two-state solution.
The conversation also covered the ongoing negotiations between Jordan and the European Commission to finalize a memorandum of understanding. This agreement is necessary to meet the requirements for the disbursement of the fourth comprehensive assistance package valued at EURO 500 million. Additionally, a new fifth package, also worth EURO 500 million, is planned to be presented to the European Council and Parliament by the end of the year.
