Joint Statement Issued During President Talon’s Visit to Doha

Doha: The State of Qatar and the Republic of Benin released a joint statement during HE President Patrice Talon's working visit to Doha. The visit, held on May 19, 2025, was at the invitation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and aimed at reinforcing the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions between HH the Amir and HE the President aligned on regional and international issues, with a focus on promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development. The State of Qatar acknowledged the economic and social reforms underway in Benin since 2016, which have been instrumental in fostering inclusive growth and modernizing institutions.

Benin, in turn, praised Qatar's active role on the international stage, particularly in Africa, highlighting its efforts to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development partnerships across the continent. Both countries expressed interest in enhancing aviation sector cooperation, including potential partnerships between Qatar Airways and Amazon Airlines, and the establishment of a direct flight route to boost Benin's economic appeal and tourism.

Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting African development, expressing readiness to assist initiatives in infrastructure, education, and health, aligning with its international development goals. The two nations also agreed to bolster cultural cooperation through exhibitions and partnerships between cultural institutions, aiming to advance cultural diplomacy.

The joint statement concluded with a pledge from both sides to intensify bilateral consultations, coordinate positions in multilateral forums, and promote a vision for an international order grounded in sovereignty, inclusiveness, and prosperity.
