Joint Statement by 21 Nations Rejecting Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland Region

Doha: The Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 21 Arab, Islamic, and African nations have issued a joint statement expressing their unequivocal rejection of Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region as an independent entity.

According to Qatar News Agency, this collective stance was articulated by the foreign ministers of countries including Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, The Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Turkiye, Yemen, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The ministers emphasized the serious repercussions of Israel’s decision on regional and international peace and security, underscoring Israel’s disregard for international law.

The statement highlighted a strong condemnation of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, viewing it as a grave violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, which mandates the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministers expressed full support for Somalia’s sovereignty, rejecting any actions that would undermine its unity or territorial claims.

The recognition of parts of states, the statement argued, sets a dangerous precedent that threatens global peace and security. It also warned against any potential links between this measure and efforts to displace Palestinian people, reiterating their firm rejection of such actions.

The joint declaration reflects a unified stance against what the participating nations view as expansionist policies by Israel, advocating for adherence to established international legal principles and the UN Charter.
