Japan Lifts Tsunami Advisory Following Kamchatka Earthquake

Tokyo: The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced today that it has lifted all tsunami advisory imposed for much of its Pacific coastline. The alerts had been in place as a precaution following the powerful earthquake that struck Kamchatka, off Russia's Far East, on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the agency had already downgraded its tsunami alerts for most of the country yesterday but had maintained them in northern areas.

Several countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Canada, the United States, Hawaii, and parts of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, had issued tsunami warnings for parts of their coastlines. Residents were advised to evacuate due to the potential impact of the Kamchatka earthquake, which measured 8.8 on the Richter scale, the strongest quake recorded in the region since 1952.
