Doha: HE the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the State of Qatar, Paolo Toschi, has stated that the relations between Qatar and Italy are stronger than ever, as Qatar celebrated its National Day on December 18. He emphasized the expanding cooperation across various sectors, including politics, security, defence, energy, and culture.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Toschi described the bilateral ties as witnessing "unprecedented strength," with both Rome and Doha looking forward to a future of deeper partnerships and shared ambitions. He emphasized the importance of strengthening trade cooperation to support regional and international stability. The ambassador expressed confidence that their collaboration will continue to grow, supporting sustainable development and mutual prosperity in the years to come.
HE Toschi praised Qatar's foreign policy, highlighting its role as a mediator and constructive partner during regional and global challenges. From Italy's perspective, Qatar's active and balanced diplomacy has solidified its position as a trusted partner in dialogue, peace efforts, and international mediation. He noted Qatar's strategic vision in engaging with diverse international actors, contributing to regional stability and supporting multilateral solutions to global challenges.
On security cooperation, HE Ambassador Toschi mentioned a recently signed memorandum of understanding between the interior ministers of both countries. This agreement will allow Qatar's Lekhwiya force to support the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics in February 2026. He also highlighted the close defence cooperation, noting recent visits by Italy's Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, Chief of the Italian Carabinieri General Salvatore Luongo, and Italy's Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani.
Reflecting on Qatar National Day, the ambassador remarked that the occasion allows citizens and residents to celebrate Qatar's leadership and achievements in building a modern state. For the Italian Embassy and the Italian community, it is a time to reaffirm the strong friendship between the nations and recognize Qatar's commitment to progress while preserving its cultural heritage.
Ambassador Toschi observed significant national transformation in Qatar during his tenure, particularly in infrastructure, culture, education, and innovation.
