Doha: Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed very little optimism about the possibility of reaching a truce in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine by the end of this year. In a statement, Tajani noted that Moscow remains determined to continue the war, supported by its defense-oriented economy and a large, well-funded army. He pointed out that Russia has been unable to achieve its objectives since the war began.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Italian minister emphasized the necessity for more decisive economic measures and the imposition of additional sanctions on Russia. Tajani reiterated his support for US mediation efforts, acknowledging the challenges involved in the task.
Tajani also highlighted the critical role of Western aid to Kyiv. He announced that Rome will host a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine on July 10-11, which will see participation from numerous heads of state and both public and private companies.
