Israeli Forces Demolish Homes in Nour Shams Camp Amidst Rising Tensions

Tulkarm: Israeli occupation forces continued Thursday their home demolitions in Nour Shams camp, east of Tulkarm city.

According to Qatar News Agency, Israeli bulldozers, under heavy infantry guard, continued to demolish homes and their surroundings in the Abu Bakr al Siddiq Mosque area in the center of the camp, as part of a plan to demolish 106 residential buildings, including 48 in Nour Shams camp. The forces also raided Abu Bakr al Siddiq Mosque, climbed onto its roof, and raised the Israeli flag from its minaret.

Israeli occupation forces had previously prevented residents of Tulkarm camp from entering their homes inside the camp to retrieve their belongings from their homes threatened with demolition, despite having obtained prior coordination, including through identity checks and interrogations. They prevented a number of them from entering and fired live ammunition indiscriminately to intimidate them.

The attack also targeted Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) crews in Tulkarm. This came after the occupation authorities notified residents of 58 buildings in the camp of immediate demolition orders, paving the way for their evacuation today. These buildings, which house more than 250 homes, were designated only four entrances and exits for the owners of the homes threatened with demolition, giving them only three hours to do so. These entrances include the Balawneh, Madaris, Hanoun Square, and Muqata'a neighborhoods.

In the same context, two Palestinians were injured by Israeli occupation forces' gunfire Thursday in the occupied West Bank. A child was shot and another was beaten during an Israeli forces raid on the town of Birzeit, north of Ramallah. A Palestinian was also injured by Israeli forces' gunfire during an incursion into the village of Al Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah.

The intensity of these campaigns has escalated in conjunction with the ongoing and unprecedented Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023.
