Jerusalem: The Jerusalem Governorate announced that Israeli occupation authorities have issued 40 demolition and stop-construction notices in the Wadi Hummus neighborhood, located southeast of occupied Jerusalem. These actions have been described as part of a strategic escalation aimed at displacing Jerusalemites from their land.
According to Qatar News Agency, the governorate stated that the distribution of these notices over the past two days is indicative of a systematic policy to seize vital areas in Wadi Hummus. The governorate emphasized that these measures are not isolated incidents but part of a broader colonial agenda. It highlighted the disparity in treatment, where colonial settlement units are facilitated with infrastructure and services, while Jerusalemites face obstacles in obtaining building permits, leading to home demolitions and project halts.
The governorate further described these actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law, reflecting colonial discrimination that severely affects the lives, economy, and future of Jerusalemites. It expressed concern over the international community's passive response, which is perceived as complicity, as the occupying power, Israel, continues to ignore mere statements of condemnation.
The governorate called upon the international community, the United Nations, international courts, and States Parties to the Geneva Conventions to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities. It urged them to stop the crimes of demolition and displacement, hold Israel accountable for its colonial policies, and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territory.
