The Irish government recognized a sovereign Palestinian state on Tuesday.
A statement from the government said the Irish government recognized Palestine as a sovereign and independent state and agreed to establish full diplomatic relations between Dublin and Ramallah.
The statement added an ambassador would be appointed along with a full Embassy of Ireland in Ramallah.
Prime Minister Simon Harris said the decision sought to keep hopes alive and it was based on the belief that a two-state solution is the only way for Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and security.
