Baghdad: Iraqi Minister of Oil Hayyan Abdul Ghani discussed Tuesday with visiting Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al Bashir boosting bilateral cooperation in oil, gas, and energy sectors. During the meeting, the two ministers focused on the possibility of reviving a defunct oil pipeline, which previously transported oil from northern Iraq to a Syrian port on the Mediterranean Sea.
According to Qatar News Agency, the pipeline, once a crucial conduit for oil exports from Iraq, has been inactive due to regional conflicts and political challenges. The revival of this pipeline could enhance the energy infrastructure and economic collaboration between Iraq and Syria, potentially providing a significant boost to both nations' economies.
The discussions are seen as a step towards strengthening the strategic partnership in energy supply and ensuring stable energy resources in the region. Both ministers expressed a shared interest in overcoming past obstacles to reinstate the pipeline's operations, aiming to benefit from mutual advantages in energy trade.
