Iraq, Italy Warn of Serious Repercussions of Military Escalation in the Region

Doha: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed regional developments and the repercussions of the ongoing escalation in the region in a phone call today with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani.

According to Qatar News Agency, Hussein stressed the importance of halting military attacks from all parties and the need to maintain Iraq’s neutrality and distance it from the conflict.

He also stressed that any violation of Iraqi airspace by Israel or any other party constitutes an unacceptable violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law. He pointed out that the expansion of the war could lead to a global energy crisis.

For his part, the Italian Minister expressed his country’s concern over the rapid developments, affirming Italy’s support for Iraq’s security and stability, and warning that the continued escalation could lead to serious consequences at the regional and international levels.
