Doha: Iraq and the United Nations have discussed mechanisms for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2732 concerning the termination of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), aiming to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement on Tuesday, Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Iraqi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Bahr Al Uloom, met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, as part of ongoing coordination efforts to implement the resolution.
The meeting focused on organizing the transitional phase and ensuring continuation of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations.
During the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Iraqi government's appreciation for the vital role played by UNAMI since its establishment. He emphasized that the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations is entering a new phase of partnership, aligned with national priorities and the positive developments currently underway in the country.
For his part, the UN official commended the significant progress Iraq has made across various sectors and praised the Iraqi government's efforts to foster stability and strengthen regional cooperation.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining the partnership between Iraq and the United Nations as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development.
