Iranian Missile Attack on Qatar Escalates Regional Tensions

Doha: Al-Raya newspaper highlighted the recent targeting of Qatari territory by Iranian ballistic missiles, describing it as a clear violation of Qatar's national sovereignty, a direct threat to its security, and an unacceptable escalation that jeopardizes regional stability. The attack comes despite Qatar's consistent diplomatic efforts to avoid escalation in the region and its longstanding call for dialogue with Iran.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya emphasized that such attacks cannot be justified and reiterated Qatar's stance as a sovereign state unwilling to accept violations of its sovereignty or threats to its security. The newspaper affirmed Qatar's right to respond in line with international law, emphasizing its commitment to defending its sovereignty and national interests. It also noted that the aggression contradicts principles of good neighborliness, undermining the mutual understanding that has been foundational to bilateral relations between Qatar and Iran.

Al-Raya further condemned the violation of sovereignty faced by other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Bahrain, expressing solidarity with these nations. The newspaper highlighted the successful interception of the missile threats by Qatar's armed forces, which demonstrated high readiness and capability. This action underscores Qatar's commitment to enhancing its military forces to protect national security.

Meanwhile, Al-Watan newspaper reported on the international solidarity extended to Qatar, with HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani receiving supportive calls from leaders of fraternal and friendly countries. These gestures reflect the respect Qatar commands internationally due to its contributions to global security and peace. The newspaper reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to dialogue as the best approach to resolving disputes, despite the recent aggression.

In its editorial, The Peninsula newspaper described the attack as a dangerous escalation in an already fragile region. It underscored the importance of sovereignty in international relations and condemned the missile strike as a violation of this principle. The paper noted Qatar's right to a measured response under international law and highlighted Doha's role as a mediator advocating for dialogue with Tehran. The Peninsula stressed that sustainable security relies on negotiations rather than force, calling for an immediate halt to escalatory actions and a return to diplomacy.
