Iranian Attacks Escalate, Threatening Qatar’s Sovereignty and Stability

Doha: Qatari newspapers have raised alarms over the escalating Iranian attacks that threaten the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and the security of its citizens and residents. This escalation, which targets civilian areas, is seen as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, contradicting the principles of good neighborliness that should guide inter-state relations.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya newspaper emphasized the severe impact of these attacks on Qatar's sovereignty and security. Iran's targeting of civilian areas, such as the water tank at Mesaieed Power Plant and an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, has been identified as an extension of Iran's aggressive actions against a nation that has consistently advocated for peaceful resolutions through reason and wisdom. Although no human casualties were reported, these attacks have forced Qatar into an unwanted escalation with potentially unforeseen consequences.

Al-Raya highlighted that the Qatari Amiri Air Force successfully intercepted two hostile Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets, seven ballistic missiles, and five drones, demonstrating the armed forces' capacity to defend the state's sovereignty. The newspaper stressed that Iran's continued aggression is an unacceptable violation of Qatar's national sovereignty and undermines regional stability.

Al-Sharq newspaper echoed similar sentiments, praising Qatar's leadership under HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for maintaining harmony across various national institutions to address the repercussions of the aggression. The newspaper noted the strong international support for Qatar's measures to protect its sovereignty, including condemnation from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Al-Arab newspaper commended Qatar's proactive approach to crisis management, highlighting its strategic stockpile of essential goods and infrastructure investments as evidence of long-term planning. This approach ensures national stability even amidst geopolitical crises and logistical disruptions.

Al-Watan newspaper focused on the broader regional implications, advocating for diplomacy as the only viable solution to the crisis between the United States and Iran. It stressed the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations to prevent further escalation that could destabilize the region.

Meanwhile, The Peninsula newspaper drew attention to the social and cultural impact of the Iranian attacks, noting disruptions to cultural celebrations and educational systems in Qatar. The newspaper emphasized how these disruptions strain daily life, traditions, and communal bonds, highlighting the fragility of normalcy in times of insecurity.
