Iranian Attacks Escalate Tensions in Qatar with Targeting of Ras Laffan Industrial City

Doha: Iranian attacks on Qatar have significantly escalated, culminating in the recent targeting of the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which has resulted in fires and considerable damage to the facility.

According to Qatar News Agency, this attack signifies a dangerous escalation, violating state sovereignty and posing a direct threat to both national security and regional stability.

The report highlights that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted Qatar's stance of remaining detached from the war since its inception, emphasizing its commitment to avoiding involvement in any escalation. Despite these efforts, Qatar and neighboring countries continue to face threats from Iran, which is described as an irresponsible approach undermining regional security and threatening international peace. Doha has consistently urged the protection of civilian facilities and energy infrastructure to preserve regional resources and maintain international peace and security.

Al-Watan further reports that Qatar's response was swift and decisive, with an official memorandum delivered to the Iranian embassy in Doha. This memorandum declared the military and security attaches, along with staff of both offices, persona non grata, and requested their departure within 24 hours. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscored that if this hostile approach continues, additional measures will be taken to protect the state's sovereignty, security, and national interests.

During a phone call with Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to maintaining energy supply continuity. Statements from HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi during meetings in Japan and the UK also emphasized Qatar's commitment to being a dependable energy supplier, reflecting longstanding policies based on reliable international partnerships.
