Rabat – Members of the Investigation and Intervention Department of the National Judicial Police Brigade arrested on Friday evening a 34-year-old French national, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French authorities in connection with criminal networks involved in international drug trafficking.

The suspect was arrested in Casablanca as part of a well-organized security operation aimed at identifying and locating all the places where the accused could find refuge in several Moroccan cities, according to a press release from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).

According to preliminary information, the French citizen was wanted internationally under a Red Notice issued by Interpol, at the request of French judicial authorities, who suspected him of leading a number of criminal networks involved in international drug trafficking and money laundering.

The suspect was taken into custody before being presented on Saturday morning before the competent public pro
secutor’s office in Casablanca, as part of the extradition procedure, according to the same source.

This arrest is the culmination of security cooperation and intelligence exchange between the DGSN and the French National Police, in line with international cooperation mechanisms in the security field.

UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said, ‘This morning, a coordinated vehicle patrol with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) came under small arms fire from the south of the Blue Line in the vicinity of Aita al-Shaab.’

‘The LAF vehicle involved in the patrol was impacted, fortunately, no one was injured,” added Tenenti.
