Interior Ministers Meet in Naples to Coordinate Voluntary Return of Irregular Migrants

Naples: The Italian city of Naples hosted the second meeting of the interior ministers of the member states of the committee on the voluntary return of irregular migrants to their countries of origin. The committee comprises Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among the four countries on irregular migration by intensifying field and security coordination, aiming to bolster regional security and curb migration-related phenomena and associated crimes.

Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between countries of origin, transit, and destination, and activating intelligence information-sharing channels to pursue criminal networks involved in organizing irregular migration and human trafficking.

The ministers also underscored the need to develop joint mechanisms and share expertise, particularly in combating organized crime and irregular migration.

The meeting was attended by Italian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli, Tunisian Interior Minister Khaled Al Nouri, Algerian Interior Minister Brahim Merad, and Libyan Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi.
